Did you know that 1 in 3 people have prediabetes? According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) 29 million people have diabetes and 86 million have prediabetes in the U.S. alone. People with diabetes are at an increased risk of serious health complications including heart disease, stroke, cancer, vision loss, kidney failure, limb amputation, and premature death.
So it may be well worth the effort to prevent this horrible disease.
The best way to prevent diabetes is to swap out processed foods for whole organic foods. This means avoiding packaged foods and cooking from scratch. Avoiding all forms of sugar especially fructose as well as processed grains, artificial sweeteners and synthetic additives.
Prediabetics and diabetics have insulin resistance. This means that their body cannot process sugar (glucose) properly.
Glucose comes from the foods we eat. As we digest these foods the body produces insulin which allows cells to be absorbed into the body. So with insulin-resistance your body has trouble absorbing the glucose resulting in excess glucose in the blood stream.
So by swapping out these foods, your body will have a decreased amount of circulating glucose in the blood stream making it easier to prevent diabetes.
